Equity & Cultural Responsiveness

Our commitment to justice, access, and dignity for all youth

Our Commitment

Reset & Rise is designed with and for justice-involved youth who have historically been marginalized, over-policed, and under-resourced. We recognize that the justice system disproportionately impacts Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other youth of color.

This platform exists to support healing and autonomy, not to perpetuate surveillance, control, or punishment. We are committed to equity, cultural responsiveness, and centering the voices of those most impacted.

Language Access

Current Status: Platform is available in English

In Development: Spanish language support

Future Plans: Additional languages based on community needs

We are actively working to expand language accessibility and welcome feedback from youth and families about language needs in their communities.

Disability Access & Accommodations

Current Accessibility Features:

  • Mobile-first design for ease of use
  • Large tap targets for motor accessibility
  • Simple, clear language (no jargon)
  • Minimal text, visual-friendly layout

In Development:

  • Screen reader optimization
  • Voice-based tool activation
  • Adjustable text size and contrast
  • Audio versions of reset tools

Youth with disabilities can request specific accommodations by contacting their facilitator or program administrator. We are committed to universal design and continuous improvement.

Culturally Responsive Design

Youth Voice Leadership

This platform was designed WITH youth, not FOR youth. Young people with lived experience in the justice system guided every design decision.

Trauma-Informed Approach

We recognize that justice-involved youth have high rates of trauma exposure. Our design prioritizes safety, choice, predictability, and dignity in every interaction.

Rejection of Carceral Technology Harm

We explicitly reject risk assessment tools, predictive analytics, surveillance features, and any technology that extends carceral control into digital spaces.

Community-Centered Support

We recognize that individual healing happens in community context. Our platform connects youth to supportive relationships and community resources.

Equity in Action

We DO

  • ✓ Center youth voice and choice
  • ✓ Use affirming, strengths-based language
  • ✓ Provide free access to all youth
  • ✓ Protect privacy rigorously
  • ✓ Design for mobile access (no computer required)
  • ✓ Honor youth culture and communication styles

We DON'T

  • ✗ Use labels like "offender" or "delinquent"
  • ✗ Share data with law enforcement
  • ✗ Require participation or punish non-use
  • ✗ Use risk scores or predictive tools
  • ✗ Track location or surveil youth
  • ✗ Make assumptions about youth needs

Disparities We're Working to Address

We acknowledge that systemic racism and economic inequality shape who enters the justice system and what resources are available for support. This platform cannot solve those structural problems, but we can:

  • Provide tools at no cost to youth or families
  • Work in partnership with community-based organizations led by people of color
  • Design with awareness of cultural communication norms and healing practices
  • Refuse to participate in systems that criminalize poverty, disability, or mental health struggles
  • Advocate for policy changes that reduce justice involvement

Questions or Concerns About Equity?

If you have feedback about how this platform could better serve youth from your community, or if you've experienced barriers to access, please reach out. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Contact your facilitator or program administrator to share feedback directly.

Accountability Statement

We are accountable to the youth we serve, not to systems of control. Our work is guided by principles of abolition, healing justice, and youth liberation. We will continue to listen, learn, and evolve.
